cGeep, encryption security software
About cGeep

How does it work?

a) The basis of cGeep

cGeep is a powerful PGP encryption software using the OpenPGP standard.

cGeep lets you encrypt any file on a PC, simply by right-clicking, and no need to enter a password. OpenPGP encryption is well-known for its inviolability.

The Outlook Office 2000/XP/2003/2007 plug-in sends and receives encrypted emails and files in a very secure yet easy way.

b) Creating keys with cGeep

Once installation is complete a cGeep wizard helps you to create your cGeep key pairs in just a few steps, using:
  • A first key – called the public key – so that your correspondents can write to you in encrypted mode.
  • A second key – called the private key – is reserved to you to decrypt any messages sent to you. It is protected by an enhanced password (or “pass phrase”). This key must never be distributed or divulged.
The cGeep public key – in secure SSL 128 bit mode – is sent automatically to the cGeep server for storage. You are not asked to do it.

The private key is stored in encrypted form on a personal area of your PC. It is protected by your passphrase, and cannot be used without it.

Only you have a copy of your private key. It is created on your PC and cGeep does not make a copy or archive it in any way.. Only you know the passphrase that protects your private key.

c) Sending an email with Outlook Office

Situation 1: You want to send a normal email (not encrypted) to a friend.

Do nothing different. Just send the email in the normal way.

Situation 2: You want to send a signed email to a friend.

Tick the "Sign on send" button and a digital signature will be included on your email. You friend does not even need to be a cGeep user! He can read the message and the attachments without having to install cGeep.
Note: With Outlook 2000 and Outlook XP you have to activate the "Sign on send" line on the cGeep menu.

Situation 3: You want to send an encrypted email to a friend

Your friend simply needs to install cGeep or any openPGP compliant software. He will let you have his email address that he used to register.

You prepare your email for sending. Then, tick the "Encrypt on send" button.

Encrypt with cGeep

That’s all you have to do.

cGeep will automatically and securely search for your friend's key on the central directory and will place it on your PC. The software then encrypts the message and the attachments, and - for security - asks you to validate the sending.

After that your friend’s address and key are recorded on your PC. There will be no need to look for the key on the central directory when you next send a message to your friend!

They will be sent faster and you can use cGeep without being connected in web mode.

d) Receiving an encrypted mail through Outlook Office

Your friend has sent you a reply in an encrypted email. The email appears to be made up of special characters and cannot be read, and any attachments are also illegible.
  • No-one apart from you can decrypt it while it is travelling over the Internet.
  • Until you decrypt it, it will remain encrypted in Outlook Office! Your message continues to be secure even if your PC is stolen or lost.
To decrypt, all you have to do is enter your enhanced password. If it is valid, the email will decrypt before your eyes.

If your friend has sent attachments, these are also encrypted, and have the extension of “.cgeep”. It could not be easier to decrypt them.
  • Save the file with the “.cgeep” extension on your hard disk.
  • Double click on the file.
  • Now enter your passphrase protecting the file. It instantly decrypts in the same directory, and no longer has the "cgeep" extension.

e) Encrypting and decrypting your files

It is also easy to encrypt files on your hard disk using cGeep!

To encrypt for your contacts, right click on file you want and select "cGeep the file". If it is just for you, all you have to do is confirm.

You do not even have to enter your passphrase to encrypt files.

You can directly encrypt files for yourself faster and without displaying the keys window. Just right click on the file and select "cGeep the file for me!".

You can also encrypt the file for other contacts by selecting one or more email addresses on the graphical user interface.

You can consult the central directory of cGeep keys and automatically import a contact by entering his email (the "import a key" button).

Decrypting couldn’t be simpler: just double click on the encrypted file:
  • Now enter your passphrase protecting the file.
  • It is instantly decrypted and drops the "cgeep" extension.

f) Sending cGeep mails not using Outlook Office!

It is easy to send encrypted and/or signed emails with a single click, using your usual email software.
  • In Windows select the file you want to encrypt/sign.
  • Right click and select the menu line "cGeep and send file by email".
  • The cGeep key selection window now appears. Select your cGeep recipients and confirm.
  • The email with the recipients concerned, and the encrypted attachment now displays automatically, ready for sending.

g) Reliability and security of cGeep

cGeep uses the best of modern encryption technologies.

cGeep is based on the OpenPGP, Internet standard, which has been proven over more than 10 years, and on encryption algorithms that have proved themselves over 20 years and have never failed.

These encryption algorithms are recognized by experts for their reliability and robustness.

They are used by numerous government agencies and institutions, notably government, industrial, medical, and financial institutions.
